CE Self-Help Center moving to new location in base housing
ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam -- The 36th Civil Engineer Squadron Self-Help Center is moving from its current location on Arc Light Boulevard to the new location at unit 1727 in "Town Center" near the intersection of Polynesian and Papaya Drive. The last day the facility is open at the current location is May 3. The new location opens May 6 with operating hours 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
Family housing residents in need of lawn mowers, light bulbs, touch-up paint, pressure washers and other maintenance items can borrow the equipment needed as well as check out replacement items, saving them the burden of purchasing these items. The Self-Help Center also offers the household re-issue program to reduce the amount of household cleaning supplies being disposed of by base residents.
The new Self-Help Center location allows the facility to serve as one of the central components of the "Town Center" in base housing, which will serve the 2,100 Airmen and family members living on Andersen. The "Town Center" concept was developed in response to organizations that were being moved out of the demolition area. The new location near the housing office will bring organizations and services like the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Family Child Care Center, Sexual Assault Response Coordinator and the Self-Help Center much closer to schools and the community. Eventually a parking lot and playground will be constructed in the area in front of the Self-Help Center. The formal opening for "Town Center" is projected to occur on June 12.
