Guam Art Exhibit to host special 2-week show
Tumon Bay, Guam – The Guam Art Exhibit (GAX) has been working for the past four years to build a community that fosters creativity and garner the kind of attention that local contemporary art deserves. Our island is teeming with unique and underexposed artists who seldom receive recognition for their thought-provoking and out-of-the-box creations. GAX has been fortunate to attract artists from different fields of disciplines including commercial artists, painters, illustrators, graffiti artists, sculptors, musicians, and even tattoo artists. GAX has been able to reveal a side of local art that some may not have known existed, blurring the line between traditional and contemporary and reshaping our local identity.
The Guam Art Exhibit is proud to present “GAX V” beginning November 15th through December 1st. It will be held at the 2nd floor of the Plaza, between DNA Evolution and Under Water World in Tumon Bay. The show will host several events throughout its two-week run, including a few Live Art and Music Nights, where people can come and watch our young artists in action.
“GAX V” is presented by DFS Galleria and the Guam Council on the Arts and Humanities Agency (CAHA), along with sponsors DNA Evolution, the Guam Visitors Bureau, Docomo Pacific and AK Scion, a collaboration that further proves that contemporary art has made a positive impression on and is being supported by our locals.
The preservation and encouragement of these works of art is significant to us as a community because in many ways, they are also a reflection of our own beliefs, thoughts and feelings about the world in which we live. Most of these artists feel that GAX is a place where their work can be safe and appreciated, and we would like to continue providing such an outlet for them to continue to express themselves creatively. Please join us on November 15th from 8:00-11:00PM at the 2nd floor of the Plaza, between DNA Evolution and Under Water World in Tumon Bay for the Opening Night of “GAX V.” Please check our Facebook Page (facebook.com/GAX.Guam.Art.eXhibit) for a schedule of events during the two-week art gallery, including Live Art Night, Live Music Night and Poetry Slam.
