Guam High junior picks up Student Excellence Award

AGANA HEIGHTS, Guam - Kelly Lua Franklin, a junior high school student, is awarded the Student Excellence Award, presented by Rear Adm. Tilghman Payne, Commander Joint Region Marianas, at Guam High School, May 29. The award is given for superior performance in academics, extracurricular activities, community service and leadership.

“It is a pleasure to be here this evening to recognize superior and tremendous performance,” said Payne.

Her course work included studying AP level biology, statistics, history and English, while her extracurricular activities included girl’s tennis, cheerleading and photographer for the yearbook. Franklin’s leadership included student council, manager of the girls’ rugby team in addition to serving more than 500 hours of community service over her three years at GHS.

“These accomplishments truly speak to commitment, character and dedication to personal goals, Guam High School and her community,” said Payne.
