ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam  -- The 36th Civil Engineer Squadron Housing Office and Unaccompanied Housing Office here is closed every Monday until Sept. 16 as a result of the Department of Defense furloughs.

The housing office, which is staffed by DoD civilians, is not able to operate Mondays as a result of department budget decisions.

The furloughs impact many other organizations on base as well but as the summer permanent change-of-station season continues, housing officials do not anticipate a slowdown in requirements from customers housing soon after arriving on Guam.

"Right now we tend to see a lot of Airmen during lunch time and the afternoon," said Robert Anderson, 36th Civil Engineer Squadron Housing Flight Chief. "We advise people to come to the office earlier in the morning to avoid the long waits."

Anderson added the office expects to see even longer wait lines due to the closures on Mondays.

Along with the housing office, the dorm managers are off as well.

"We want to remind Team Andersen that if there are any new Airmen coming in on a Monday night, be sure to get a room from the dorm manager the week before because no one will be available on Monday," said Rose Taitano, 36th Civil Engineer Squadron supervisor dorm manager.

Dorm residents planning to get Internet and cable from local providers should not schedule an appointment for installation on Mondays due to the mechanical room being locked.

"Our goal is not to inconvenience the residents, but provide the base with outstanding customer service," Anderson said.

The work of the housing office does not end with the service member moving in; they assist in providing furniture as needed and maintenance assistance as well.

If Airmen are waiting on household goods, the housing office will provide loaner furniture up to 90 days.

Although the housing office may be closed an additional day, housing maintenance and the furniture management office will still be working normal business hours.

The housing office is open 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. every Wednesday.

Call the housing office at 366-2127 or unaccompanied housing office at 366-3240 for more information.
