Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Guam recognized Orote Point Lanes Manager Kelly Lizama as Employee of the Year during a ceremony on U.S. Naval Base Guam Jan. 4.

As manager, Lizama is in charge of operations, programs, staffing, budget, marketing, promoting and training in food and beverage and bowling operations. He also initiates and implements plans at Orote Point Lanes to improve the quality of life for active-duty military, retirees and dependents.

“It is a great accomplishment to be recognized within the base – I never expected anything for just doing my job, which I enjoy,” Lizama said. “I was surprised and now I have to achieve a higher goal to be considered this award again. It will be a challenge and I am ready to meet that goal.”

Lizama’s accomplishments in 2012 include generating increased revenues for Orote Point Lanes, organizing bowling events, and starting new bowling leagues.

The selection was determined by MWR’s STAR program, which is based on revenue-generating ideas from managers and/or staff members. Kelly was selected from 320 MWR employees on Guam.

“His hard work and dedication, fiscal performance and leadership skills were defining characteristics of him being chosen,” said MWR Guam Recreation and Deputy Director Leslie Gould.

MWR Guam’s mission is to provide quality support and recreational services that contribute to the retention, readiness, mental, physical and emotional well being of our Sailors.
