Santa Rita, Guam (June 21, 2013) – A Sailor assigned to USS Frank Cable (AS 40) died June 19 during an incident at Alpha Pier on U.S. Naval Base Guam.

Navy Diver 3rd Class Robert Dotzler, 22, of Kiel, Wis., is survived by his parents, who have received notification.

Dotzler was discovered unconscious while conducting diving operations off the pier. He was transported to U.S. Naval Hospital Guam where he was pronounced dead at 11:27 a.m.

The Navy is conducting an investigation.

Dotzler reported to Frank Cable in 2011. Prior to his assignment on Guam, he was stationed at the Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center in Florida.

Although new in his Navy career, Dotzler was recently nominated for the Command Advancement Program, which recognizes stellar Sailors through meritorious advancement in rank.
