SANTA RITA – A ribbon cutting ceremony commemorated the opening of the new Naval Exchange (NEX) Minimart on Naval Base Guam (NBG) Dec. 19.

The project was realized because of a continued partnership between NBG’s Department of Public Works, Naval Facilities Engineering Command Marianas, NEX and Facilities Engineering Acquisitions Division.

“Thank you for bringing this facility to our community and to our warfighters.” NBG Commanding Officer Capt. Andy Anderson said. “It provides a valuable service and it will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 364 days a year.”

Anderson said that the service members from visiting ships will be amazed with the products and services that the Minimart provides.

The facility is 10,000 sq. ft. and has a double trailer loading dock at the of the rear of the store to alleviate traffic at the pumps during delivery times. It also has a 30-foot food bar and the first NEX diesel dispensing station on Guam. It is the first newly-constructed NEX building on Guam in 25 years.

“We mark this moment as a monumental commitment to excellence in customer service and a monument to excellence in engineering, craftsmanship and technology,” said Lt. Andrew Forester, NBG Chaplain.
