Shop till you drop during Shop Guam e-Festival Dec. 1-Feb. 4
The Shop Guam e-Festival, touted as the biggest shopping event in the Western Pacific, kicks off Dec. 1 and runs through Feb. 4. In its fifth year, this island-wide festival of discounts and deals has transformed into an e-Festival this year to fully embrace the vision of “Smart Tourism.”
“We changed it to an ‘e-Festival’ due to our great focus on mobile marketing and sustainability this year,” said Pilar Laguana, Guam Visitor’s Bureau spokesperson. “So we want to highlight the new approach by changing the name.”
Shop Guam features an array of retail, dining and entertainment discounts packed into 66 days of in-store events, culinary celebrations and cultural activities designed to coax shoppers – from near and far – to take full advantage of Guam’s tax-free shops, restaurants and attractions.
Over 230 special offers and discounts on retail, dining and entertainment are available exclusively during the Shop Guam e-Festival period, according to Laguana.
This will be the first year GVB won’t print free coupon booklets with participating vendor information. Instead, they offer a new Savings Passport to encourage mobile app downloads for opportunities to win monthly shopping prizes.
“In order to be more mobile and more sustainable, GVB decided not to print any heavy coupon booklets this year,” Laguana said. “Instead, we want to focus on mobile app marketing and promote the user shopping experience via app. The app is much improved this year with enhanced features such as on-location beacon marketing and a sweepstakes for tourists to enter.”
Visitors who download the mobile app and turn on the Bluetooth will be able to receive Beacon notification, which pops up to remind visitors to use app coupons when they walk into participating businesses.
The smartphone savvy can download mobile apps from the iPhone and Android app stores (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id1152318231) that allow searching for nearby vendors by name or map location. It also details special offers available at each retailer. The mobile shopping guides are available in five different languages (English, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Chinese).
“We also invited international bloggers to feature Guam and the participating merchants. The bloggers stories will be available on the APP at later date,” Laguana said.
Retail and service discounts range from 30 percent off for a minimum purchase of $70 or more at GAP, 25 percent off AVIS daily car rentals, one free Calamari Fritto with purchase of an entrée at Capricciosa or a free gift (silver chain) with minimum purchase of $200 at Vince Jewelers.
This year’s restaurant and entertainment deals include a free Taco Bell beef Crunchy Taco Supreme with the purchase of one, a free onion loaf with a purchase of an entrée at Tony Roma’s Restaurant, a free drink with any meal purchase at Gold Club and 10 percent off general admission plus one free food bag that can be used to feed the animals at Guam Zoo.
Guam Visitors Bureau began the Shop Guam Festival in 2012 as a global social media marketing campaign, aiming to create an interactive shopping experience highlighting Guam as a modern, fashionable and diverse destination to shop.
