SHPO requests comments on Guam Historic Preservation Plan Draft Update
ASAN, Guam (Sept. 23, 2015) – The Guam State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), in coordination with the Navy, is seeking public comments on the Guam Historic Preservation Plan Draft Update.
The National Historic Preservation Act mandates each State Historic Preservation Office to develop and implement a Comprehensive Statewide Historic Preservation Plan. The current plan, Na’ Nina’ etnunen Linahyan Ni’ Manmaloffan— Connecting the Community to the Past, A Comprehensive Historic Preservation Plan for Guam, 2007-2011, is currently being updated, and will be implemented 2016 – 2020. The current plan will continue to provide direction for the preservation and protection of Guam’s rich, but fragile historic and cultural resources through a series of objectives that will address their preservation. The plan also identifies current critical trends, issues, threats and opportunities affecting historic preservation.
Copies of the Draft HP Plan Update will be made available at the Department of Parks and Recreation, Guam Historic Resources Division, 490 Chalan Palasyo, Agana Heights, beginning September 28, 2015. The current plan can be accessed at www.historicguam.org. Comments received after September 30, 2015 will still be considered in future plan updates.
