In recognition of a German tradition, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Guam will host the Oktoberfest Golf Tournament Oct. 19 at the Admiral Nimitz Golf Course (ANGC) in Barrigada.

Showtime to the event, which is open to the public, is at noon and shotgun start is at 1 p.m.

“It’s a great opportunity for patrons to kick off the celebrations before the MWR and Navy Exchange partner Oktoberfest event at Molly’s on NBG (U.S. Naval Base Guam),” said MWR Event Coordinator Leslie Gould. “This is only part one of our Oktoberfest celebration.”

ANGC General Manager Paul Vasquez agreed with Gould and encouraged interested participants to join the event.

“Playing golf is just a lot of fun,” he said. “No matter if it’s for a particular event, the sport itself is just a real stress-reliever. I recommend everyone just give it a chance and I’m sure you’ll have lots of fun.”

Pricing for the tournament is as follows:
• $30 for E-1 – E-5
• $35 for E-6 and above, and retirees
• $45 for civilians

There will be prizes for golfers after the tournament including a lunch for two, hotel room stay, airline travel vouchers and more.

Register for the event at the ANGC no later than 5 p.m. Oct. 17. For more information, call 344-5838.
