Service members and military families can satisfy their craving for turkey and all the trimmings on Thanksgiving Day thanks to the USO Guam.

“This is just one of the many ways Guam USO and its generous supporters and sponsors show how much we appreciate our service members and their families,” said USO Area Director-Hawaii and Guam Leigh Leilani Graham. “It will be just like home -- great food, great friends, a homey atmosphere and lots of entertainment.”

Graham said it is especially important for the USO to serve the nation’s service members and their families who are far from home and create a comfortable environment for them.

“We realize that military and their families are often very far away from the ones they love during the holidays and it can be a lonely or sad time without a great place to celebrate in the company of people who really understand,” she said. “USO is your family. You are the most important people in the world to us, the defenders of our freedoms. We give thanks for you and want you to join us in celebration.”

The festivities will begin at noon in the upstairs banquet room of the Royal Orchid Hotel Guam in Tumon on Thanksgiving Day Nov. 23. Food will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis and will be available until 5 p.m. or until all the food has been served. Service members and families must bring their ID cards and attendees are encouraged to RSVP before the event by calling USO Guam at 647-4876.

For those who want to join in the efforts to give thanks to the troops, the USO is also accepting volunteers to help the festivities flow smoothly.

“Thanksgiving Day volunteers are the force that makes the holiday spirit come alive,” Graham said. “We need help with decorating, commissary shopping support, food pick-up Thanksgiving morning, food service and the most fun part, cleanup.”

Prospective volunteers can contact USO Guam Programs Manager Eric Williams at 647-4876, 483-0048 or via e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
