USS Emory S. Land visits Guam, sailors volunteer in community

ASAN, Guam (Aug. 12, 2014) – Sailors of USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) will volunteer their time during a port call on Guam.

While on island, Sailors will participate in the following community service projects:

  • M.U. Lujan Elementary School – Sailors will assist school staff and Guam Homeland Security in clean-up efforts to prepare the campus for the upcoming school year Aug. 13, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • St. Dominic’s Senior Care Home – Sailors will visit residents and assist staff members with daily activities Aug. 20, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Emory S. Land, homeported in Diego Garcia, is a forward-deployed submarine tender tasked with providing expeditionary intermediate level maintenance and repairs, as well as providing hotel service and logistics support to deployed guided-missile and fast-attack submarines deployed in the 5th and 7th Fleet areas of responsibility. Emory S. Land is additionally capable of providing repair and logistic services to deployed surface combatants and ships.
