Finalists compete for big scholarship & education prize money

Upper Tumon, Guam, May 4, 2016 - The Adkins Scholarship Foundation, privately funded by local businessman James L. and wife Rosita S. Adkins, will hold its Finalist Day & Awards Banquet on Saturday, May 7, 2016 from 10am – 12nn in The Salon at the Hyatt Regency Guam. 
 
This event is the culmination of the Contest where it’s five finalists will personally present their findings in front of an esteemed panel of judges, The Foundation owners & their own families.  After the presentations conclude, judges will deliberate to determine the positions of the finalists and will immediately award the following prizes:
 
1st place = $10,000 ($4,000 to student, $6,000 to higher learning institution)
2nd place = $6,000 ($2,500 to student, $3,500 to higher learning institution)
3rd place = $4,000 ($1,000 to student, $3,000 to higher learning institution)
4th place = $500 (100% to student)
5th place = $500 (100% to student)
 
 Since 2005, the Adkins family, through their eponymous scholarship foundation has awarded cash & scholarship prizes to students who have definite plans to continue their education after high school at a university, college, or technical trade school in the career field of their choice.  
 
This year, The Foundation will give a total of $21,000 in cash & scholarship prizes to the top 5 finalists of their annual Research Project Contest.  To be eligible, you must be a resident of Guam, a junior or senior attending any public, private, or Department of Defense high school on Guam or any college freshman who is on Guam or from Guam. This scholarship is a competition, which involves a written research project and an oral presentation from the top three finalists. The first place winner will receive $10,000. The second place $6,000 and the third place $4,000. Places 4 and 5 will receive $500 each.  Each scholarship award will be divided into two parts and detailed information is available below.
