GCC offers FREE Construction Boot Camp
In order to address the critical shortage of construction workers on island, Guam Community College is offering a FREE Future Builders of Guam Construction Boot Camp. This camp will run from July 2 through August 10, 2018, and is designed to launch successful completers into a career in the construction industry.
The Construction Boot Camp is a six-week training cycle that will run from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm on the GCC campus. The Boot Camp will focus on the construction fields of carpentry, welding, electrical, masonry, and plumbing, and provide participants with the opportunity to earn nationally recognized certifications in those five fields, in addition to being able to earn valuable CPR/Basic First Aid, OSHA safety and EM385-1-1 (compliance required by all contractors working on military contracts and projects) certifications.
“We are offering this boot camp in order to provide people with the opportunity to get into the construction industry, which is in need of skilled persons and which is paying well for those skills,” said Dr. Mary Okada, GCC President. “These are sustainable skills that can launch successful careers because they are skills that are, and always will be, needed on our island,” Dr. Okada added.
The free Construction Boot Camp is open to 20 participants. Participants must be high school graduates (or have a high school equivalency) and have proof of a recent TB skin test. To sign up, please call Pilar Williams, GCC Associate Dean, at 735-0205, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
