Guam Community College will officially open its Veterans Club Lounge/Study Room tomorrow, Friday, September 11th, at 9:30 A.M. in Room 6111 of the GCC Foundation Building. GCC currently has 173 students that are VA certified. They represent just over seven percent of the total GCC student population for fall semester 2015, according to Jayne Flores, GCC Asst. Director of Communications & Promotions.

On Sept. 4, three Guam veterans were inducted as officers of the newly formed Veterans Club during the officers’ induction ceremony for GCC’s 21 student organizations. Rodney Cruz Jr. will serve as president of the Veterans Club, Max Veimau will serve as vice president, and Anthony Martinez will serve as the club’s sergeant-at-arms.

The purpose of the Veterans Club is to help veteran students readjust into civilian life, get them accustomed to speaking in public, and “create an awareness on campus and in the community as to what being a veteran means to our country and our island,” according to Cruz.

LTC (Ret.) David S. Okada, a U.S. Army veteran and 9-11 Pentagon survivor, will give remarks during tomorrow’s brief ceremony, which falls on the 14th anniversary of the terrorist attacks waged by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda on the United States on September 11, 2001.
