UPPER TUMON, Guam – They could have folded, coach Jacob Dowdell said, after their heartbreaking 24-20 semifinal loss a week earlier to George Washington.

Instead, the Guam Panthers closed their Interscholastic Football League season in style, using a high-powered rushing attack to overwhelm Okkodo 36-0 Friday in the league’s third-place game.

“I’m so proud of our guys for the way they came back in convincing fashion,” Dowdell said. “They could have rolled over after losing like that, but they stayed true to our program, the fact that we have a program and there are buy-ins across the board with this team.”

Tegan Brown led the rushing assault with 215 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries. “He had a monster game,” Dowdell said. Lorden Aguon added two TDs and had 118 yards on six carries, while Juwon Jacobs added 193 yards and a score on 15 attempts. Juwan King tossed a 25-yard TD pass to Aguon.

Dowdell and the Panthers (6-2) now turn to the future, which more immediately includes a home game with the Singapore All-Star Falcons on Nov. 4, and next season, when the Panthers will have to overcome the loss of 20 seniors - including the big three of Jacobs, Brown and Aguon - to graduation.

“We’re excited for Singapore, especially since we can’t play at Far East,” Dowdell said.
