Upper Tumon, Guam, January 24, 2017- The Adkins Scholarship Foundation, privately funded by local businessman James L. and wife Rosita S. Adkins, announces its $20,000 scholarship contest aimed to minimize tuition costs and student debt for Guam students. Since 2005, the Adkins family, through their eponymous scholarship foundation has awarded cash & scholarship prizes to students who have definite plans to continue their education at a US Accredited university, college, or technical trade school in the career field of their choice. 

The Foundation awards a total of $20,000 in cash & scholarship prizes to the top 3 finalists of their annual Research Project Contest.  To be eligible, you must be a resident of Guam, a junior or senior attending any public, private, or Department of Defense high school on Guam or any college freshman who is on Guam or from Guam. This scholarship is a competition, which involves a written research project and an oral presentation from the top three finalists. The first place winner will receive $10,000. The second place $6,000 and the third place $4,000. $100 will be given to places four through ten.  Each scholarship award will be divided into two parts and detailed information is available below. 

Award details:

1st place: $10,000. $4,000 is given directly to the student. $6,000 will be directly transferred to the higher learning institution of their choice to off-set tuition or any other school related expenses.

2nd place: $6,000. $2,500 is given directly to the student. $3,500 will be directly transferred to the higher learning institution of their choice to off-set tuition or any other school related expenses.

3rd place: $4,000. $1,000 is given directly to the student. $3,000 will be directly transferred to the higher learning institution of their choice to off-set tuition or any other school related expenses.

Applications for the 2017 Research Project Contest will be released on Saturday, January 28 at 10am at the J Adkins Building in Upper Tumon during an orientation.  From that date, applications can be downloaded on the Foundation’s website: www.adkinsfoundation.org or via email request toadkinsscholarshipguam@gmail.com.
