Still time to register for GCC summer STEEP!
There’s still time to register your high schooler interested in science and technology for the GCC Sustainable Technologies and Environmental Education Program this summer! This three-week program for students ages 14-17 years old runs from May 29 – June 21, 8:30 am – 2:30 pm on the GCC campus, and engages students in the topic of sustainability through hands-on, interactive and innovative teaching strategies. Students will plan, construct and analyze sustainable projects such their own solar-charging products; learn about and make alternative pallet furniture; learn about local flora and fauna as they create exotic floral arrangements, and more.
“What they learn through the STEEP will be invaluable when they return to school in August,” said Francisco “Kiko” Palacios, GCC Sustainability Coordinator and STEEP Coordinator. “Teaching our young people how to be sustainable is imperative for our island’s future, because they are the ones who will carry it forward,” he said.
The cost for the three-week course is $300, however, if your student is in the GCC Reach for College program, RFC will pay the STEEP tuition. Fifteen of the 20 program slots are reserved for RFC students, so students ages 14-17 in Reach for College should definitely sign up. Tell your student to talk to her or his GCC counselor at their high school.
Deadline to register is May 24, 2018 (updated!). Call Francisco “Kiko” Palacios, GCC Sustainability Coordinator, at 735-5501 or 777-8080 for more information.
