OKINAWA, Japan — Department of Defense Education Activity Pacific high school students will get a taste of healthy competition at this year’s Far East Culinary Arts competition Feb.5-6 at Yokota Air Base, Japan.

Teams of four students from Kinnick, Kadena, Kubasaki, Seoul American and Edgren High Schools will have one hour to prepare a three-course meal using two butane burners. Teams are judged by culinary professionals on their knife skills, teamwork, sanitation, menu presentation, and taste. The winning team qualifies for the National ProStart Invitational® which will be held May 3-5 in Minneapolis, MN.

The judging portion of the event is open to anyone with base access and takes place Feb. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Yokota Air Base. Media representatives who would like to cover the ceremony are requested to contact the DoDEA Pacific event director Krista Hurley at 644-5906 or Krista.Hurley@pac.dodea.edu by 3:30 p.m. Jan. 31.
