“Run for our Mañe’lu” 5K run/walk to be held on Sept. 5 to benefit Saipan relief efforts
Tamuning, Guam. The office of Senator Dennis Rodriguez, Jr. will be holding its 5th annual 5K run/walk on Saturday, September 5, 2015, go time is at 6:00 A.M.
This year’s event, “Run for our Mañe'lu”, which means Run for our Brothers and Sisters, is a means to raise funds in support of our families and friends to the north who were devastated by Typhoon Soudelor over this past weekend. All proceeds of the event will be used specifically for relief efforts of the storm and collaborated through the Guam Marianas Lions Club, a non-profit service organization that has been providing service to Guam and the region for the past 66 years.
This 5K run/walk is another opportunity for the community to help our brothers and sisters in Saipan who have been affected by this super typhoon. A day after the devastation, Senator Rodriguez reached out to personal friends in Saipan to lend his support and gathered a team of community leaders to plan and organize this 5K.
Senator Rodriguez thanks our Guam community for the immediate outpouring of support and looks forward to raising a significant amount of funds to ensure assistance is sustained for our Mañe’lu in Saipan.
Partners of this effort are Paradise Fitness Center, Johnny Cool’s Services, National Office Supply, Sons of Saipan and the Guam Marianas Lions Club.
Registration for this run will begin August 15, 2015 at Paradise Fitness Center (both locations), the Office of Senator Rodriguez, and at all National Office Supply stores. Registration is $10 in advance, $35 for a family of four, if purchased in advance and $15 on race day.
Race route will begin and end at the Chamorro Village (facing Marine Corps Drive) in Hagatna and is sanctioned by the Guam Track and Field Association. There will be prizes raffled after the race, including a roundtrip ticket to the Philippines, and much more.
