4th Navy sub sailor gets prison in shower recording case
MAYPORT NAVAL STATION, Fla. — A fourth Navy sailor has been sentenced by a court-martial to prison in the recording and sharing of videos that showed female officers and trainees undressing for showers aboard the submarine USS Wyoming.
A military judge sentenced Petty Officer 3rd Class Cody Shoemaker to 18 months in prison and a bad conduct discharge Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to secretly videotaping female trainees from a tight crawl space with a view into the sub's shower area.
Seven sailors stationed at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base on the Georgia coast have been charged in a case that has tarnished the Navy's integration of women into the U.S. submarine force, which had been all-male until 2011.
Three other sailors pleaded guilty last week. Charges are still pending against three others.
