December 5,2015 - Senator Frank Blas Jr. is encouraging the public to attend the annual War Survivor's Mass to be held on December 8ft at the Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral-Basilica.

The Mass, which will be held at 9:30 a.m., is being held to commemorate the 74th Anniversary of the beginning of the occupation of Guam during World War II. The event is being hosted by the Guam War Survivor's Memorial Foundation. On the morning of December 8, 1941 island residents were celebrating Mass in honor of the Immaculate Concepcion when enemy planes began its bombing of Sumay Village. Fearing for the safety of those in attendance at the Mass, Bishop Miguel Olano halted the Mass with a plea for everyone to gather their families and seek shelter.

"Along with honoring our survivors, the Mass serves as an opportunity for our man'amko to complete a Mass that was abruptly ended more than 74 years &go," Blas said. *Every year we hold this Mass in honor of all those who suffered and died as well as those who survived the occupation of Guam." Mass will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 8, 2015. A light breakfast will be served following the Mass at the Cathedral-Basilica Lanai.
