APRA HARBOR, Guam — A crew from Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25 located the body of a missing Russian tourist at 10 p.m. local time on Monday night, approximately two and a half nautical miles south of Obyan Beach, Saipan.

The Coast Guard, Navy and Saipan Department of Public Safety searched for the man after receiving a report at approximately 6 p.m. that he had not returned from snorkeling in the Obyan Beach lagoon.

Department of Public Safety crews launched immediately along with HSC-25, who utilized night vision equipment and a datum marker buoy to aid in the search. Datum marker buoys provide real-time current drift data that is used by the Coast Guard to establish probable search locations.

A High Seas and Small Craft Advisory has been in effect throughout the weekend and will remain in effect through 6 p.m. Wednesday for the entire Marianas. Mariners and beachgoers are reminded to monitor weather conditions before taking to the water.
