With just over three weeks left, the Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) is preparing to celebrate the 10th Guam Ko’ko’ Kids Fun Run on Saturday, October 29th and the 11th Guam Ko’ko’ Road Races on Sunday, October 30th. This is the second year both GVB signature events have been combined for what is known as “Ko’ko’ Weekend” at Governor Joseph Flores Memorial (Ypao Beach) Park.

KO’KO’ KIDS RUN TURNS 10

Ko’ko’ Weekend kicks off with the Guam Ko’ko’ Kids Fun Run turning 10 in 2016, offering races for three specific age groups – a 3K for 10 – 12-year-olds, 2K for 7 – 9-year-olds and 1K for 4 – 6-year-olds. Space is limited to the first 300 registrants. Each finisher will receive a trick or treat goodie bag, t-shirt and finisher’s medal.

NEW FEATURES

Touted as Guam’s most fun run in 2016, the Guam Ko’ko’ Road Races will incorporate a costume theme and contest that will reward solo and relay runners for the most original, best superhero, and scariest costumes with cash prizes. Loconut Entertainment will be sponsoring the costume contest with cash prizes valued up to $1,750.

“We’re excited to feature the Guam Ko’ko’ Kids Fun Run and Guam Ko’ko’ Road Races again, this time during Halloween weekend,“ said GVB President and CEO Nathan Denight. “Our new costume themed races are just an added incentive for both local and international runners to partake in these long standing GVB signature events, celebrate sports tourism on island and learn about our endemic Ko’ko’ bird. We invite everyone to bring their family and friends down to Ypao and register before the final deadline.”

In addition to the costume theme and contest, runners can also choose to participate in a new 10K run/walk that has also been added. A Post Race Monster Bash will begin immediately after runners complete the course, with vendors and live entertainment rounding out the Ko’ko’ festivities. The Post Race Monster Bash is free and open to the public. It will include activities for the entire family, as well as live entertainment from the Phoenix Stage Band, an awards ceremony and breakfast.
