GCC will launch its Keep Your Guard Up training program for Guam Army National Guard soldiers returning from deployment in Afghanistan on Monday, February 17th, at 8:00 A.M. in the GCC Multipurpose Auditorium. Over 200 unemployed or under-employed soldiers will begin their training that morning.

While the soldiers were still in country, GCC’s Office of Continuing Education & Workforce Development (CEWD), in collaboration with the Calvo administration and Guam’s business community, formulated a 90-day industry certification program for these unemployed or under-employed soldiers in eight areas: automotive general service technician; A+ computer networking; electrical; emergency medical technician; heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), supervision and management, heavy equipment/truck driving, and welding.

“GCC is committed to assisting these soldiers who have so honorably served their country with training that can lead to sustainable employment opportunities and a better quality of life for them and their families,” said Dr. Mary Okada, GCC president.
