GCC students host veterans' art awards

Twenty-four veteran artists were honored during a Veterans Creative Art Showcase Award Ceremony on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 in the Guam Community College Multipurpose Auditorium. Students in the GCC Supervision & Management SM225 Leadership class, in conjunction with the Guam Veterans Art Committee, hosted the event, to commemorate and acknowledge the sacrifice and service of Guam veterans through their artistic outlets. Several artists brought paintings or sinahi siha (Chamorro necklaces carved of shells) to display at the event.

The following artists were honored for their talents: Harvey Barnes, Raymond Baza, BJ Bell, brothers Mario and Tony Borja, Juan Chaco, Rodney Cruz, Peter John Duenas, George Francisco, Levy Laurel, Daniel Mendiola, Albert Naburn, Danny Orlino, Melinda Quichocho, Gordon Ridder, George Rivard, John Rivera, Reuben Olivas, brothers Alejo and Ricardo Sablan, Johnnie San Nicolas, Raymond Shinohara, Jerome Untalan, and Raymond White.

The Guam Veterans Art Committee obtained raffle prizes for the event from sponsors Delta Airlines and Agana Shopping Center, the Bank of Guam, Personal Finance Center, and Jones & Guerrero Inc., Sen. Tommy Morrison’s office, Pepsi Guam, Pacific Star Resort, GTA, Hilton Guam Resort, the Sand Castle, and DNA Evolution.
