Inaugural Guam International Marathon a success
The Guam Visitors Bureau, along with the Pacific Islands Club Guam and United Airlines hosted the inaugural Guam International Marathon on April 7, welcoming more than nearly 2,200 runners.
More than 1,000 of the runners came from Japan, Korea, Philippines, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australian, United States and Palau to take part in either the 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon.
Yeunsik Ham from Korea set a blistering pace in the men’s division winning the marathon with a time of 2:43:07. Eunhee Youn, also from Korea, won the female division in 3:08:49.
Christopher Magoto from Guam won the male half marathon in 1:18:26 and Natsuki Kato from Japan took the female half marathon in 1:28:11. Tsukasa Kawarai from Japan won the male 10K in 33:12 and Suzuka Ueto took the female 10K in 39:38. Gabe Lombard from Guam won the male 5K in 17:33 and Yuka Muto from Japan won the female 5K in 21:16.
Runners were treated to a PIC Pacific Fantasies Dance Company fire show at the start of both the marathon and again at the start of the 5K. Nearly 550 runners took part in the marathon, just under 500 in the half marathon, 476 in the 10K and nearly 700 runners in the 5K.
