Japanese emperor and empress commemorate World War II in Palau

PELELIU, Palau (April 9, 2015) - Rear Adm. Bette Bolivar, Commander, Joint Region Marianas, meets Japanese Empress Michiko during a World War II commemoration ceremony at the U.S. Army 81st Infantry Memorial. The visit by the Empress and Emperor Akihito marked the first time a Japanese monarch has visited Peleliu, the site of more than 10,000-Japanese war dead, since World War II.
