National Preparedness Month grand finale to be held at Agana Shopping Center

Guam Homeland Security/Office of Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) wraps up National Preparedness Month (NPM) with its grand finale on September 20, 2014 at the Agana Shopping Center from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (ChST).

The NPM grand finale is hosted by Guam Homeland Security/Office of Civil Defense (GHS/OCD). This year’s theme is “Be Disaster Aware. Take Action to Prepare” and urges all residents to prepare for disasters and emergencies in their homes, businesses and communities.

Emergency first responders will showcase specialized equipment, vehicles and provide educational information for emergencies. Live demonstrations will be held in the parking lot with multiple displays inside the shopping center. Community Emergency Response (CERT) teams from Guam Homeland Security, Sanctuary, TATUHA, and Harvest Christian Academy will compete in a CERT Rodeo, which includes fire safety, light search & rescue, and disaster medical operations with a chance to win a travelling trophy.

Participants of this year’s NPM grand finale are the GHS/OCD, Citizen Corps, Earthquake/Tsunami Program, Guam Memorial Hospital, Guam Behavioral Health and Wellness Center, Department of Public Health and Social Services, Department of Integrated Services for Individuals with Disabilities, Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Application Review Committee, Department of Youth Affairs, Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research & Service, Guam National Guard, Department of Parks and Recreation, Guam Fire Department, Guam Police Department, National Weather Service Guam, Department of Agriculture's, 36th Security Forces Squadron, AAFB, Glimpses, Customs & Quarantine, and several private and non-profit organizations.

There will also be special appearances by Forestry mascots Smokey the Bear, Chelu, and Piti Pete.
