Everyone is invited to attend the celebration of Guam Safe Boating Week, part of the 2013 North American Safe Boating Campaign, May 18 through 25, 2013.
The volunteer membership of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Guam Flotilla 2-24, together with the United States Coast Guard, Guam Boating Law Administrator’s office, Guam Police Department Marine Patrol, Guam Fire and Rescue, the Guam Fisherman’s Co-Op, and local marine dealers, want to remind local boaters to always, “Boat Smart, Boat Safe - Always wear a life jacket.”

As a continuing effort to promote safe recreational boating, the Coast Guard Auxiliary Guam Flotilla will once again be visiting various sites around the island providing safe boating information and offering free Vessel Safety Checks at the following locations around the island:

May 19: Agat Marina - 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
May 21: Merizo Pier - 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
May 23: Sumay Marina - 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
May 25: Agana Marina - 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

These complimentary inspections are designed to ensure the recreational boat owner has all required safety equipment in working order to ensure your boat meets federal safety standards, and in an emergency you have the necessary equipment to save lives and summon help.

On Saturday, May 25, 4:00 PM, the annual, “Blessing of the Fleet” will be conducted by a local parish priest at the Hagatna Boat Basin.    All private, commercial and public vessel owners and operators are invited to bring their boats and receive a blessing for safe voyages on the sea.  The Guam Fisherman’s Co-Op sponsors this popular event and graciously provides a merienda, including fresh fish and other island cuisine after the blessing.

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed volunteer component of the United States Coast Guard created by an Act of Congress in 1939. The Auxiliary supports the Coast Guard in nearly all of the service's missions.  For more information on Guam Safe Boating Week Activities or to schedule a vessel safety check, call Guam Flotilla Commander Clarence Feagin at 777-7893 or
