The U.S. Coast Guard Sector Guam, the Guam Fire Department and U.S. military are currently searching for another service member who disappeared while swimming Andersen Air Force Base’s Tarague Beach, the Coast Guard confirmed Tuesday morning.

The search began around midnight, according to officials.

Base residents are asked to avoid Tarague Beach area until cleared by base authorities.

On Monday afternoon, the remains of another airman temporarily assigned to Andersen AFB were recovered, Air Force officials said. The cause of death is under investigation.

The U.S. Coast Guard Sector Guam, Guam Fire Department and Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25 were alerted to a missing swimmer near Pagat Point on Sunday afternoon and responded with an extensive search operation along the coastline.

The airman’s name will not be released until 24 hours after next-of-kin notification.
