Guam Diner Bytes: King's Restaurant
We recently had this week where I ate “local” and Zee ate “healthy.”
My local choice came from King’s Fiesta Food & Platters section on their extensive menu. I had King’s Kadon Beef Shank ($12.99), which is a family-sized “tureen-like bowl” of tender beef shank soup with cabbage that has been cooked slowly over time to perfection. This comes with rice and finadene.
It was more massive in circumference and was deep as well! There was so much beef in this (even bones with savory bone marrow!) that I had to share with Aileen who had stopped by to meet me. This was after Zee had filled a bowl with cabbage and broth (which was pretty alright!)
Frankly, I was shocked at how much food they put in that bowl. This would make three meals for me! It was also quite good; a big improvement from the past.
I had mentioned that Zee chose a “healthy” meal, which happened to be one of the “10 for $10” menu selections on their special menu. It was the Tofu Veggie Bowl that has a generous portion of cubed soft tofu that’s stir-fried with a large portion of mixed veggies in oyster sauce over rice – In this case, brown rice was offered as an option! I tasted it and found that it was balanced with both flavor and nutrition. It felt good eating it as it is so much lighter than heavy meats!
As I said, she had “healthy,” however, let’s not forget to mention the portion size! It’s “HUGE”! Yes, there was more than half left to take home. Sure shows you how value-conscious King’s is – and their food is so much better!
