SANTA RITA, Guam (Oct. 14, 2016) -- Karl Dreikorn, U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG) Installation Energy Manager (right), explains some of the energy conservation initiatives at NBG to Lt. James Guthrie, NBG Security Officer, during an Energy Awareness display at the Navy Exchange Home Store, Oct. 14.  Highlights of NBG's energy initiatives include the awarding of a $15.6 million contract to upgrade Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) units.  Eleven U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG) facilities will soon receive ENERGY STAR-certified HVAC units with new high performance technology and high-energy efficient Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems, resulting in an annual savings of more than $1.38 million. Work is planned to begin in January or February 2017.
