Guam BBQ Block Party to be held July 5
Tantalizing BBQ aroma will be in the air on Saturday, July 5th for the 2nd Annual Pleasure Island Guam BBQ Block Party. This incredible culinary and cultural event was designed to enhance Guam's visitors experience while also appealing to the local community.
The event will showcase Guam's unique BBQ styles through a competitive BBQ cook off featuring local and international grill-masters preparing a wide variety of cuisines including grilled meats, vegetables and delicious local delicacies. In addition to featuring local cultural performances and live music, various food vendors and local goods from artisans throughout the island will also be on display and available for purchase. In the spirit of community, the event will be free and open to the public and event organizers expect thousands of participants will turn out for this event, as they did for last year's inaugural BBQ Block Party.
The highlight of the event is the BBQ competition organized by the Micronesian Chefs' Association (MCA). Over $4,000 has been put up as prize money for the BBQ contest so a large turnout from Guam's most prolific grillers is expected. Raising the stakes, international chefs from Russia and throughout Asia have also been invited to compete for the coveted BBQ Championship and sought-after bragging rights.
Various local artists and Chamorro cultural demonstrations will also take place to include world-renowned artist, Tristan Eaton. Eaton is recognized for his public wall art which he will create before and during the BBQ Block Party event (www.tristaneaton.net). Local art developed through the GUMA (Guam Unique Merchandise and Art - www.gumaguam.com) Incubator Program will also be on display and available for purchase at this exciting event.
