AFN “all in” with Super Bowl coverage
The American Forces Network (AFN) is airing Super Bowl 50 live on TV and radio with two repeat airings.
The official Super Bowl coverage starts Feb. 8 at midnight CET/8:00 a.m. JKT on AFN|sports. AFN|sports repeats the game Feb. 8 at 10:30 a.m. CET/6:30 p.m. JKT and again Feb. 8 at 6:00 p.m. CET/ 2 a.m. JKT Feb. 3.
AFN radio airs the game live on AFN Eagle and AFN 360, an internet radio service, “Fans” channel on Feb. 7 at 11:00 p.m. CET/7:00 a.m. JKT Feb. 8. Kevin Harlan is the play-by-play announcer with Boomer Esiason as the color analyst along with hall of fame quarterback Dan Fouts. Hall of famer James Lofton and Mark Malone will report from the sidelines.
In honor of the fiftieth Super Bowl, Willie Price, AFN Sports Programmer said AFN is airing a wide array of supporting programming. “AFN is bringing you hours and hours of Super Bowl 50 coverage. Even if you aren’t a football fan, we have something for everyone,” Price said.
AFN TV’s 16 hours of pre-game shows include: “50 Super Bowl Stories,” “Super Bowl Greatest Halftime Shows,” “NFL Honors,” “Phil Simms All-Iron Team,” “Super Bowl Today,” and the official “Super Bowl Pregame Show.” While viewers won’t get to see Super Bowl commercials air live on AFN, the “Greatest Super Bowl Commercials” show is airing Feb. 7 and many of the Super Bowl commercials will air on AFN TV after the Super Bowl on talk and entertainment shows.
AFN also offers something special for viewers who would rather not watch football. AFN|family is airing Puppy Bowl XII, which pits Team Ruff versus Team Fluff. And while the Super Bowl will trot out Coldplay as its big-time halftime entertainer, Puppy Bowl includes a kitty half-time show complete with a San Francisco kitten takeover. AFN|movie is featuring the “BFF Bowl,” with movies about women who are Best Friends Forever. In addition to NHL and College Basketball, AFN|prime Atlantic is also airing a “Super’ natural Bowl,” a five hour marathon of the series Supernatural.
On the social media side, for the first time, AFN invites viewers to live-chat during the Super Bowl. Share messages on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram by using #SB50AFN. AFN will share viewer messages live on the air during both the pre-game and Super Bowl. For viewers brave enough to make score predictions, use #SB50AFN before the big game; prediction may appear in an AFN spot.
