Local Guam dive shop, Axe Murderer Tours Guam celebrated valentine’s day with a Love My Ocean beach and under water cleanup this past February 14th.  Held at the Agat cemetery beach and Amtrack dive site, over 30 AMT Guam staff and volunteers worked through the morning to collect and remove over 40 large bags of trash and other large objects.  According to AMT Guam owner Megan Statkus, this site was chosen as it is frequently found to have debris on the reef and shoreline.  On this day the participants found a significant amount of trash that had been dumped along the beach as well as debris scattered across the Amtrack dive site.  The most unusual item found:  an old big-screen television that had been dumped near the water’s edge.  After collection, AMT Guam staff hauled the bags away to be disposed and recycled as much as possible.

Ms. Statkus also pointed out that many of the participants in this and previous cleanup events are active duty military stationed here on Guam, including several of the AMT Guam dive instructors. “It’s heartwarming to see the pride taken in keeping our reefs and beaches clean by the military community here on Guam” said Ms. Statkus.  AMT Guam hosts cleanup events throughout the year.  For more information on future events you can call the Andersen Family Dive Shop (Located next to Outdoor Rec) at 671-653-1021, or check the Axe Murderer Tours Guam Facebook page or their website at www.amtguam.com
