GHS/OCD hosts Homemade Explosives Awareness Training

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in coordination with the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, will host the Homemade Explosives (HME): Awareness, Recognition, and Response training on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., at the GHS/OCD facility in Agana Heights.

The comprehensive course provides first responders with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to effectively prevent, interdict, and respond to an imminent threat caused by HME laboratories and producers. The course focuses on the various components and manufacturing processes of homemade explosives, response considerations when encountering homemade explosives, enhancing community situational awareness, and ensuring appropriate personal protection.

Attendees for the course include law enforcement, emergency medical services, fire services, communications, specialty team members (SWAT, Haz Mat), hospital, medical professionals, and emergency management personnel from the Government of Guam, federal, military, private, and non-profit organizations.
