(April 7, 2017 – Hagåtña, GU) — Today, the Guam Territorial Band received Legislative certificates commending them for their recent performance at the New York Invitational Music Festival and congratulating them for winning the Gold Award for their superior performance at Carnegie Hall.

The certificate was introduced by Sen. Régine Biscoe Lee. Acting Speaker Therese M. Terlaje and Sens. Tom Ada, Louise Borja Muña and Frank Blas Aguon, Jr. joined Sen. Biscoe Lee in lauding band members for their achievements.

“Just performing at Carnegie Hall, one of the most prestigious and well-known venues in the world, is an achievement. But earning high praise – a Gold Award, in fact – is truly remarkable,” Sen. Biscoe Lee said during the presentation.

“On Guam, educating and inspiring youth, and nurturing their passion for music has been at the heart of the band’s mission. With participants ranging from middle schoolers to seniors, the Territorial Band has connected generations, passed on skills, and encouraged young musicians to develop their love of music,” she said. “You do so much more than perform. You truly serve our community as ambassadors and leaders.”

The presentation took place on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at the Public Hearing Room of I Liheslaturan Guåhan, Guam Congress Building. Contact or call 671–472–3455 for more information.
