Registration is open to compete in the Calvo’s SelectCare Grand Prix Series – Guam’s largest tennis tournament featuring 59 events to be played over five weekends.

“The Calvo’s SelectCare Grand Prix Series has become Guam’s largest tennis tournament for our local players as young as six years old through to players over 55 and it continues to grow each year,” said Joe Cepeda, tournament director. “Particularly with our junior events, the tournament is popular among high school students preparing for the upcoming IIAAG Tennis League. We also are expecting highly competitive draws in all other events – singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.

“Thanks to generous support from Calvo’s Selectcare, we are able to stage this tennis tournament to meet the demand of both our up-and-coming tennis players, as well as veteran tennis players, looking to gain more match experience and compete among Guam’s best,” Cepeda added.

The Junior Singles and Aged Singles events take center stage in Week 1 of the tournament beginning Jan. 19, followed by the Men’s and Women’s Skilled Singles events the following weekend. The final three weekends feature doubles action beginning with Men’s and Women’s Skilled Doubles the weekend of Feb. 2 followed by Skilled Mixed Doubles the weekend of Feb. 9. The tournament concludes the weekend of Feb. 16 with Aged Doubles, Aged Mixed Doubles, and High School Doubles events.

The deadline to register for the events is 5 p.m. each Friday, one full week ahead of the scheduled event. Players may register online via the Tennis Academy of Guam Web site

Match format will be best-of-three sets with no-ad scoring and a super tiebreak in lieu of a third set. An awards banquet will be held Mar. 3.
