Islan Ideas 2018 Xpo: The WAVE Club celebrates 30 years on Guam and connects island youth to the “Power of ‘I’”
Feb. 20, 2018 – What do Island and Ideas have in common? The “I” that joins together to become a “we” to make a difference for our island home. Through two exciting events, the Tourism Education Council (TEC) will bring Guam’s WAVE Clubs together at the Islan Ideas Youth 2018 Xpo to think big about “The Power of ‘I,’” so we can continue to Inspire, Initiate, and Innovate and learn more about what makes Guam a unique destination,” said Donna Quinata, Chairperson of the TEC sponsors of WAVE Clubs.
“This first ever XPO is a “TED TALK” type of event that will be held at the Dusit Thani Hotel on Wednesday, Feb. 28 for 3rd through 6th grades and Thursday, March 1 for 7th through 12th grade,” said Kevin Delgado, MC of the two-day XPO. “We will feature local and off-island speakers during this time, including Kids From Chuuk, Meta Sarmiento (a Guam native living in the States) and Natalie Warne, a youth who galvanized people across America including Oprah to her cause,” Delgado said. “Dr. Fred Schumann of the University of Guam Tourism and Business Department will speak on Tourism and the Pursuit of Happiness and Roy Abraham will discuss and explain how to promote Guam using social media,” he added.
“Islan Ideas Youth 2018 Xpo aims to embed that valuable message into the young minds of Guam’s future leaders and to think big thoughts and actions about themselves as they go through life here on Guam and beyond”, said Donna Quinata.
