NBG wins 2nd Place in Navy Installation Excellence Award

WASHINGTON -- Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) has announced the Navy's 2017 Installation Excellence Award Winners.

This installation excellence award program recognizes the Navy's top three large and small installations, and rewards installation performance in accordance with the command's strategic goals and Office of the Secretary of Defense criteria for the DoD-wide Commander-in-Chief Installation Excellence Awards.

The Navy's top installation winners are as follows:

2017 Large Category:

1st Place: Naval Base (NAVBASE) Kitsap (led by Capt. E. A. Schrader)
2nd Place: U.S. Naval Base Guam (led by Capt. H. E. Sholley)
3rd Place: Naval Air Station (NAS) Sigonella (led by Capt. B. A. Trickel)

2017 Small Category:

1st Place: Naval Weapons Station (NWS) Seal Beach (led by Capt. N. J. Dahlke)
2nd Place: NAS Kingsville (led by Capt. E. A. Spitzer)
3rd Place: Naval Support Activity Washington (led by Capt. J. Draeger)

"Competition this year was extremely keen, as each large and small installation nomination package was impressive, and spoke to the myriad of great accomplishments that you and your teams have made," said Vice Adm. Dixon Smith, CNIC. "For your outstanding leadership and world class support to the fleet, fighter, and family, I am proud of your collective accomplishments."

NAVBASE Kitsap will represent the Navy in competition with other military services for the Department of Defense Commander-in-Chief's Annual Award for Installation Excellence, which recognizes outstanding efforts in the operations and maintenance of U.S. military installations.

"Congratulations go out to Capt. Schrader and all the men and women of NAVBASE Kitsap who worked tirelessly to make this happen," said Smith.

Installation excellence enables better mission performance and enhances the quality of life for service members and their families. Each nominated installation succeeded in providing the highest quality working, housing and recreational conditions.

Supporting the fleet, fighter and family, Navy Installations Command is comprised of more than 50,000 Sailors and civilian employees located at 71 installations in 11 regions worldwide.

Installation Excellence Award Summary

U.S. Naval Base Guam has established an exacting standard of operational readiness and installation support recognized throughout Pacific. The command’s undaunted commitment to “Fleet, Fighter and Family” concepts led to unprecedented levels of superior mission effectiveness, warfighter readiness, and family support requirements.

The installation is critically essential to mission requirements related to the rebalance to the Pacific and has astutely supported over 714 ship movements and the prompt delivery of over 7M gallons of fuel, the mishap free handling of 3.8M pounds of ordnance, and the transfer of over 420 tons of cargo.

U.S. Naval Base Guam is vital to the strategic interest of our nation and has played a pivotal role in maritime support for our regional allies and Pacific partners through the superlative hosting of surface combatants and submarines from Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, Peru, Philippines, France, Korea and Japan.

In addition, the installation continued to diligently perform over 350 NEPA reviews in FY16. These project reviews covered construction and training exercises throughout the Marianas and included the challenging Guam Military Buildup SEIS. U.S. Naval Base Guam also hosted visits by 28 high ranking U.S. and Japanese military officers and government officials.
