SANTA RITA, Guam (Dec. 14, 2018) – Effective Dec. 17, new procedures for those with a Veterans Health Identification Card (VHIC) will be implemented at the U.S. Naval Hospital (USNH) Guam Entry Control Point.

Personnel in possession of VHIC will be authorized access to U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG) – USNH.
If personnel in possession of VHIC are being accompanied by driver/passenger(s) that possesses an accepted form of U.S. identification (i.e. State driver’s license, U.S. Passport, etc.), access to NBG - USNH will also be granted.
Access for veterans to NBG-USNH is authorized for medical services at USNH only. Access to NEX Mini-mart, Guam High School, or other tenants on NBG-USNH are for authorized patrons only.
There is no requirement for the veteran to produce an appointment letter/slip.

Capt. Jeffrey Grimes, NBG Commanding Officer, recently met with Naval Hospital and Veteran’s Affairs Guam Community-Based Outpatient Clinic to discuss ways to improve accessibility to USNH for veterans. As a result of these discussions, the changes described above were made to current procedures.

“These changes are needed to improve the accessibility to USNH by our veterans,” Grimes said. “These changes strike an appropriate balance of safety and security while also providing improved access for authorized hospital patrons.”

Prior to this implementation, an appointment letter/slip was required for VHIC cardholders. In addition, personnel accompanying an authorized veteran without authorized base access credentials were required to obtain a visitor pass from the Visitor Control center (VCC).

As a result of these changes, the VCC at NBG – USNH will remain closed indefinitely. The VCC, located outside Naval Base Guam Main Base, will remain open and guest services will be able to issue guest passes.
