Tinian joins destination transformation initiative, hosts GCEA anniversary

(Capitol Hill, CNMI – June 24, 2021) - The Tinian Mayor’s Office, Typhoon Sports Association, and the Fitbeat Anti-Tobacco Wellness, Tinian are joining the Governor’s Council of Economic Advisers’ Public Private Partnership campaign and will commemorate the new partnership with a transformation project at the Broadway Estates Basketball Court.

The facility has seen better days and through the combined efforts of the Tinian Mayor’s Office, Typhoon Sports Association, and Fitbeat Anti-Tobacco Wellness, Tinian, the court’s bleachers, backboard, and rims will be replaced, and braces will be reinforced. The entire facility will also get a fresh coat of paint this weekend, as GCEA members and officials and the Office of House Minority - CNMI House of Representatives - 22nd Northern Marianas Commonwealth Legislature and their staff and volunteers will be on Tinian to assist in the transformation project.

The transformation of the Broadway Estates Basketball Court will coincide with the second leg of the council’s first-anniversary celebration GCEA co-chair Gov. Ralph DLG Torres is pleased to have the island on board for this special occasion.

“The continued success of GCEA’s Public Private Partnership initiative hinges on the involvement and commitment of the leaders and residents of Rota, Saipan, and Tinian. We are promoting The Marianas as a multi-island destination and we need everyone’s support to transform our sites and village facilities for the benefit and enjoyment of our visitors and residents. This transformation campaign is part of our joint efforts to revive our tourism industry to provide the needed jobs for residents and generate revenues that will help rebuild our economy,” Gov. Torres said.

The Broadway Estates Basketball Court is the 60th site that has been adopted since the GCEA launched the PPP program last summer.

“I commend the Typhoon Sports Association and Fitbeat Anti-Tobacco Wellness, Tinian for stepping up and the Tinian Mayor’s Office for its leadership in taking on this task. I encourage other groups in the government and private sectors to support the PPP campaign by adopting sites and village facilities. The islands are our home, and it is our shared responsibility to take care of them. Together, we can,” Governor Torres added.

Meanwhile, the third and final leg of GCEA’s first-anniversary celebration set on Saipan has been moved from July 3 to July 24. New PPP partners and volunteers are welcome at all PPP events.
