Wednesday, December 5, 2018 —  The U.S. Marine Corps’ holiday program, Toys for Tots, whose mission is to spread Christmas cheer to less fortunate children, took the Håfa Adai Pledge as it celebrates its 70th Anniversary and its first Tot Olympics event, held on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at the Plaza de España in Hagåtña.
Toys for Tots is a U.S. Marine Corps holiday program, celebrating 70 years of providing Christmas cheer to children (infants to 17 years-old) from deserving families. The U.S. Marine Corps is collecting toys for children at 70 locations around the island, and will work with the Salvation Army and Catholic Social Services to deliver the gifts before the holidays.
The Tot Olympics provided games, arts and crafts, and prizes for children under the age of five. With thanks to Håfa Adai Pledge Ambassador, Bonita Baby, children who signed up to take the Håfa Adai Pledge were able to enter the Tot Olympics for free.
Flanked by island children taking the HAP Kids Pledge, Staff Sergeant Britny Brown, who represented the Toys for Tots Program, highlighted the similarities in values of the Chamorro culture and the U.S. Marines, particularly how both care for their people. She also mentioned that Toys for Tots is a program by the people for the people.
