United Airlines Guam Marathon donates supplies to GPD and GFD
(January 25, 2018 -- Tumon, Guam) United Airlines Guam Marathon (UGM) organizers Guam Sports Events, Inc. (GSE) presented to Guam Police Department (GPD) and Guam Fire Department (GFD) a donation of supplies that was made possible by an increase in runner participation during the 2017 event. To date, UGM has donated $18,000 in cash and valued supplies to event beneficiaries.
“As a result of the increase numbers in the 2017 UGM event, we were able to return the same act of kindness that our beneficiaries have shown us in their support of the event.” said Ben Ferguson, managing director of GSE. “The men and women of the Guam Fire Department and Guam Police department are great supporters of the UGM event. We count on them to ensure the safety of our runners and the community at large and thank them for their significant role in the quality of life that we all enjoy on Guam.”
UGM frequently partners with different beneficiaries each year to help shine a light on beneficiaries’ outstanding work in the community and to support the causes they represent.
Ferguson added, “We would like to give credit where credit is due. UGM is proud to contribute to these great organizations, and we do this on behalf of the thousands of participants of the United Airlines Guam Marathon. Without the continued support of our returning runners year after year and our local running community, this would not be possible. This is also a great time to relay our appreciation to GFD’s Event Volunteer Firefighters and EMTs, GPD’s Highway Patrol Division and the Civilian Volunteer Police Reserve.”
UGM invites the public to save the date for the 6th Annual UGM event on Sunday, April 8, 2018 and encourages local runners to take advantage of early registration discounts by Wednesday, January 31st before midnight. Registration is available at the event site, unitedguamamrathon.com.
About the United Airlines Guam Marathon
The United Airlines Guam Marathon (UGM), in its sixth year, is organized by Guam Sports Events Inc., a non-profit organization that hosts annual sports tourism events to promote Guam’s Håfa Adai spirit and attract more visitors to Guam. UGM is Guam’s first IAAF-approved marathon race, and will take place on Sunday, April 8, 2018. Considered Guam’s premier running event, UGM includes 5K, 10K, half marathon (13.1 miles) and marathon (26.2 miles) race distances. All courses have been officially certified by the IAAF (International Association of Athletic Federations) and AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Distance Races). This designation means that marathon runners may use UGM as a qualifying event for the Boston Marathon. Complete event details and registration can be found on the official event website at unitedguammarathon.com . UGM welcomes United Airlines as its naming sponsor for the second year in a row. UGM is also sponsored by Guam Visitors Bureau and Pacific Islands Club. Participants can engage with runners and received event updates at ugmcommunity.com.
