USS America visits Guam, Sailors, Marines to volunteer in community

ASAN, Guam (Jan. 8, 2018) – Sailors and Marines from the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) and 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit will volunteer at the following events during a port call to Guam this week.

- Oceanview Middle School – Volunteers will give class presentations about their careers and participate in Chamorro class lessons with students, among other activities, Jan. 8 from 12:30-4 p.m.

- Catholic Social Service Adult Day Care – Volunteers will visit the center to interact with and participate in light exercises and arts and craft activities with elderly clients Jan. 9 from 12:30-4 p.m.

- Piti – Volunteers will be asked to assist the village mayor's staff with a coastal cleanup and interact with the village's senior citizens Jan. 11 from 12:30-4 p.m.

America is the flagship of the America Amphibious Readiness Group, and with the embarked 15th MEU and Amphibious Squadron 3, is currently conducting maritime security operations and supporting theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations.
