ASAN, Guam (May 28, 2015) – USS Topeka (SSN 754) will arrive at its new homeport aboard U.S. Naval Base Guam May 29.

As part of the Navy’s long-range plan, the Los Angeles-class submarine will change homeport from Portsmouth, N.H., to Guam after completing her engineered overhaul at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. The submarine will be assigned to Commander, Submarine Squadron 15.

Forward-deployed submarines serve in global operational requirements. Guam’s strategic location enhances military force flexibility. Its location allows freedom of action, regional engagement, crisis response and deterrence, while helping to fulfill commitments to U.S. allies and partners to protect the nation’s security.

With a crew of approximately 150 personnel, Topeka is the fourth submarine in its class. It is the third naval vessel to be named after Kansas state’s capital city.
