Santa Rita, GU — On January 7th Coast Guard Sector Guam was notified by Guam Police Department and Guam Environmental Protection Agency (GEPA) of a vehicle in the water between Merizo and Inarajan.

Sector Guam aligned with GEPA and the Inarajan Mayor’s Office to mitigate any environmental damage and ensure the vehicle could be removed safely. Sector Guam initiated the funding for contractors to remove the threat of pollution from the waterway.

Contracted companies placed oil absorbent barriers around the vehicle as commercial divers prepared the vehicle for removal.

The vehicle was safely removed from the water on the 8th and towed away for recycling.

The unified efforts of the multiple agencies involved ensured a timely and seamless removal process of the vehicle reducing environmental damage.
