ANDERSEN AIR FORCE BASE, Guam- -- Want to report suspicious activity or crime?

Sometimes, the need to do the right thing is overpowered by not wanting to be involved or not knowing if a call to the emergency lines is appropriate … well, fear no more!

Operation Crime Stop is a 24-hour hotline available for reporting crime, both imminent and in progress, as well as suspicious activity both on and off base. The program is designed to overcome the reluctance of community members to get involved with law enforcement by providing a way for people to report crime anonymously.

“The phone line is completely anonymous,” said Staff Sgt. Melissa Miller, 36th Security Forces Squadron police services. “We want people to feel more comfortable by giving them the ability to talk to us off-the-record when they want to report crime or concerns.”

Anonymous crime reports can include, but are not limited to, schoolyard crimes such as bullying, domestic violence, suspicious activity and animal abuse.

In addition to wanting people to utilize the Crime Stop Hotline, Miller said she recommends residents ensure all doors and windows are locked and secure during absences or at night, high-cost items are secured while away from home, and to inform trusted friends or neighbors about an extended travel so the neighbors can keep an eye on property.

To reiterate, Miller pleads for people to make use of the line to improve safety and security for service members and their families.

“Please call 366-6666 for anything,” Miller said. “We are available for you and want to ensure your safety.”

So the next time you see something peculiar or suspicious, make use of this fantastic program and keep Andersen safe!
