The Air Force Academy football team has surpassed last year’s season-ticket sales, the first increase the team has seen since 2011.

The Falcons have sold 13,626 season tickets as of Thursday afternoon, an increase over the 13,104 sold a year ago. In that number are 1,100 new season ticket holders. The academy reported that the increase in revenue has already exceeded $30,000.

Those figure includes the roughly 4,000 tickets that cadets are required to purchase.

“We are excited to break a five-year trend of falling ticket sales,” athletic director Jim Knowlton said in a press release. “Our athletic department team worked alongside the fan engagement committee to come up with some creative ways to get the community excited about the upgrades we’re making to the overall fan experience. I think fans are excited about the season and watching our football team compete.”

Air Force has gone 12-0 in home games over the past two years and enters this year picked second in the Mountain West’s Mountain Division. The Falcons return six of their top seven rushers from a year ago and could field an all-senior starting 11 on defense.

Falcon Stadium has also seen some upgrades, most notably a 2,500 square-foot video board that is the largest in the Mountain West and among service academies.

“We have completely redesigned our approach to ticket sales over the last year and it has had a lasting impression on our fans,” said Scott Sterling, assistant athletic director for ticket sales and marketing. “The entire focus has been a commitment to serving our fans year-round. To not just call and sell a ticket, but to truly get to know our fans, find the best options individually, and to thank them for their support every step of the way. The increase of ticket sales is a testament to the loyalty of Falcon fans and the commitment from the ticket sales staff to customer service and fan engagement.”
